Cake Base

A proven basic recipe for cake base from Wolfgang - perfect as a foundation for all types of cakes.
Ingredients (1 cake base)
- 250g flour
- 2 level teaspoons baking powder
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 100g sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 egg
- 125g margarine or butter
Instructions
- Knead all ingredients together into a smooth dough.
- Let the dough rest in the refrigerator for at least half an hour.
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- Roll out dough and press into cake pan.
- Bake at 200°C for about 20 minutes.
For 2 cake bases (Grandma’s version)
Double all amounts:
- 500g flour
- 1 packet baking powder
- 2 packets vanilla sugar
- 250g margarine (Sanella)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 eggs
- 200g sugar
Preparation as above, baking time: 200°C, ±20 minutes
Tips
- Resting in the refrigerator makes the dough smoother and easier to work with
- The base can be used as foundation for fruit cakes, cheesecakes or cream slices
- Well-baked and stored, the base keeps for several days
